Warner Bros. latest entry in their DC Extended Universe (DCEU), Blue Bettle, crawled into local theaters this weekend, albeit with slow opening numbers. The new heroine in this superhero franchise manages to amass 25.0 million and 86 thousand admissions over the five-day weekend. The opening is much lower than that of The Flash, another DCEU entry from last June, which sprinted to a 45.0 million opening. These low numbers mirror these films' performances at the North American box office. Experts and analysts have already pointed out the disappointing box office results of recent offerings by the DCEU.
On the other hand, last week's number one, The Meg (another WB entry), descended by one spot—crunching 10.3 million and 37 thousand admissions, bringing its cumulative total to 96.4 million. It will reach the 100-million mark in a few days. Warner Bros. completely dominated the top three last weekend, with Barbie coming in at number 3. The film based on the popular titular doll has already grossed 332 million and 1.12 million total admissions. Meanwhile, UPI's Oppenheimer has grossed 150 million at the local box office so far.
